How many articles to include in RSS Feed?

What is the ideal number of documents to include in a rss feed?

I think that is a reference to the cult film classic SpinalTap grin

I have a situation where we need to be able to label articles where a major revision was performed and have them show back int he feed but with a new date. I cant use the editedon date since not every edit is to be considered revision. Not sure the bast way to accomplish this. I am thinking of a checkbox that when set a plugin will reset the publish date (or a dateTV) to the new revision date.
