Purpose of default MODx CSS

We’re in the process of building a new CSS for our CMS and have been wondering about the purpose of current CSS on a default MODx installation.

Was the purpose of the default CSS purely to demonstrate the possibilities MODx? Or to get a basic site up and running quickly? Or was it intended to be used as a foundation to build on? We have been looking into using a CSS framework such as the one designed by Mike Stenhouse (http://www.contentwithstyle.co.uk/Articles/17/). How best it should be incorporated, if at all?

Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated.

The default template and css are just to have some examples available. MODx does not in any way restrict or require any type of template, and you can put your stylesheet anywhere you like, as long as the path to it is correctly specified in your template’s head. Convention is to have all stylesheets and any other template-specific support files (background images, et) in a folder assets/templates/templatename/, but it’s just for convenience, not a requirement.

It is not recommended to re-use the existing template css files, since an upgrade would overwrite them. Make your own, and put them in a separate folder.
