Has anyone ever used OpenEMM for newsletter or mailing list management?

Is it worth while or are there better options? I noticed they had something called the OpenEMM Web Service which, according to the manual, provides 13 methods of controlling OpenEMM from a CMS or CRM application. It’s over my head but I wonder if work with the MODx user manager somehow.
