SQLBuddy - Ajax powered database editor.

Seems to work fine with 0962 rc2, only issue so far was on the users page.

I can forsee this being turned into a integral part of the manager, a very useful tool.

But in IE7, the performance is very poor (at first I thought it had crashed), due to the fact it shows all databases on the server. And on the server of my host, there are quite a few... I already contacted Sqlbuddy.com about this.

In Firefox I don’t experience any performance problems.

Perhaps good to know is that SQL Buddy does not work in IE6 or earlier.

It has been a long time since I have worked with a shared host. I did not realize that you would get a list of all databases, even if you are not authorized to view them. It would definitely make sense to just show a list of the ones that you are authorized to view. I will try my best to get this fixed for the next release.

So, that would solve the performance problem on a shared host

@Breezer: I agree that an application like this would be a very useful addition to the manager.

Does someone know a way to retrieve database/user/password from the Modx config and pass it to SQL Buddy, so you can work with the database rightaway?

Yikes. Sounds like a good tool for cross-site hackers. Just upload it to your site and get information on all the db’s at your host.

I just tried this out. It’s very nice indeed, although I noticed a couple of minor bugs. I’m on a shared server, and not only do I not see anyone else’s database names, I also don’t see any of my own databases for which the user I entered doesn’t have access (so either this has been fixed or your server was misconfigured).

This sounds cool. Maybe a module could be packaged and posted in the repo if the license of it allows. This would be immensely helpful.

On IE6 and developers I don’t think end users should be managing the db much and they really should not be using deprecated 7 year old browser with a 10 year old browser engine. I recommend to clients to upgrade to IE7 or use Fireworks, Safari or Opera. People using IE6 are experiencing a more and more broken web experience as major cos are dropping support in exchange for new JS and CSS 2.1 which it doesn’t support.

@smashingred: I totally agree with you about IE6. I don’t see why back-ends like the Manager should even try to support it anymore, since it’s so incredibly old, broken, and insecure. The only reason that 25% of surfers still use it is because Microsoft made it so difficult to upgrade to IE7 without going through their WGA check.

SQLBuddy uses mootools, so it should play nicely with the 0.9.6 Manager, and the license definitely allows making and distributing a module with it:

I only can see the names of the databases. Can’t open or change them, because I’m not authorized.

@ZAP: The latest version available is the same one I installed. To be sure, I will download and install it again. Otherwise I will inform my host and ask to look into it.

I tested on a shared hosting account I have access to and I could only see my database. I guess it may depend on the database server configuration. On my server (VPS with cPanel) I also only see the database which the user has access to.

OK. I got it working by simply creating a new module and adding a redirect to the sqlbuddy script. Since the manager is in frames it loads in the frame and works great.
