Podcasts / MP3s

Okay, this isn’t really a MODx question, but it’s something I need to sort out anyway.

A user has linked to an MP3 through one of my MODx sites (which is fine), but when you click on the link, the MP3 opens in an external player (eg, Windows Media Player). But if I go to a podcast blog (i.e., not actually subscribing to the podcast) and click on the link to an episode, it will play through the browser (using quicktime in my case).

In both cases, there appears just to be a link to an MP3. So, what’s the difference and why? Is there any way for me to get the MP3 my user has uploaded to play through quicktime (or whatever) rather than through an external player?

I wasn’t looking at an RSS feed for either. The link to the mp3 file, though, that was added to one of my sites was mms://iss-video.leeds.ac.uk/Polis/polis_kap.mp3

While a random one that streams through quicktime is: http://www.clonepod.org/wp-content/plugins/podpress/images/audio_mp3_button.png

Actually, now I look at them, the one added to my site starts with mms:// which I’ve never even heard of before. Is that what is causing it? Is it even valid?

Guess I might be banning this then if it’s proprietary. Just tried it on my mac and it doesn’t recognize it. Grr.
