    I am watching Shaun’s video here: http://vimeo.com/8335791?hd=1

At t=01:25 he talks about doing upgrades and uploading with FTP and "merge vs complete overwrite"

And merge being good and overwriting = bad.

I normally do upgrades by uplaoding to the server the complete archive (either zipped or *.tar.gz if available), and decompress on the server, and use the linux/unix cp command to overwrite. Such as:

    cp -r modx-beta5/* modx/

This saves much time & tedium compared to uplaoding a zillion individual files from my local drive to server.

Is he saying my method is bad and I can’t/shouldn’t do upgrades that way?

I’ve never had a problem upgrading other apps that way. At least I don’t know about any problems doing it that way.

    I use WinSCP with a VPS. http://winscp.net/eng/index.php

    Can someone pls comment?

    Thanks.
