can't select form fields in IE6

Hello all,
I have some weired issue on IE6 and an eform I made.
I have the form here http://www.beautifulsins.com/er/contact-us.html

under IE6 i can’t click inside the first 2 fields but in the other fields it works fine.
I searched all over with the mans best friend and all I could find was z-index issues, which I don;t think is my case as my only z-index is a single image in my header, when I tried to override the form z-index with higher # for the form it didn’t change much.

This is quite annoying and I can’t find any clues of what the problem can be.

Does anyone has an idea what can cause this under IE6?

Bad news, I can’t select them with IE7 either (athough I can tab to them). I don’t know what’s wrong. If you just want a simple contact form and can’t find your error, you might try SPForm (in the repository). You’d have to hack it to add the address fields.

I don’t thinks it’s an eform problem. but I’ll give SPForm a try for the sake of it. I was more thinking somewhere along the css path but not sure.

I’ve had similar problems involving not being able to select fields, or even menu items not working. It had to do with some containers overlapping the container with the form or the menu; setting some z-index values.

One way to make sure that’s the problem is to disable the css file (rename the file in the link in the template temporarily is the easiest way to do that) and see if the form works with no CSS at all.

Without your style_xyz_ie6.css in IE6, your form is shifted about 250px to the right and all the input fields are selectable. This sheets must contain the problem.

In style_lt_ie6.css I looked for:



position absolute means in relation to the parents position. If the parent (#ER_template), - and his parent and so on - isn’t explicitely positioned (relative? absolute?) the rendering result is probably not, what you wanted.
Then, IE often doesn’t like negative margins .. and you used negative margins instead of a combination of top|left|bottom|right.

What follows is not the solution. Its just one plant in a jungle, but try this



and see what happens.

thx for the replies everyone. im80 appreciate the deep look you had, help me find the fix. I didn’t know css can be so powerful, always think about it from design only perspective, suddenly a padding of 200px with negative margin disable my form
make sense now
