IE8 readiness toolkit

I came across the info on Ajaxian which has been announced at Mix 08’, IE8 beta is available for download...

Something worth considering starting testing, let’s hope things are really better than IE7... maybe this will finally bring an end to this crappy webstandards support we had to compose with for so long...

Anyway they announce :
* CSS 2.1 Compliance
* Data URI Support
* Better CSS printing
* CSS Selector API support
* Acid2 support
* Better DOM Core support

Wait and see...

I’ve downloaded it and it’s already rendering my existing websites obscurely. >:(

Argh I’ve just realised the site I’ve been working on getting cross-browser compatible for weeks now completely breaks. Bah.

However I do wish the IE7 had a ’Emulate IE6’ button.

Great to see that we’re going to have to allow for IE6, 7 & 8 rendering differently to everything else! >:(

By inserting a meta tag into your document header you should be able to trigger IE8 to render like IE7 or 6, I think.

And were any of us surprised?

Life’s full of surprises, but only bad ones from Internet Explorer ?

Duh, I am not surprised but if they can’t render Google Maps they have a BIG problem and they should not call IE8 a beta, rather alpha...

I had read a lot of stuff about IE8 passing Acid2 but it show that it doesn’t make IE8 a good browser (yet - let’s be hopeful...).
