MAMP (PRO), Cache issue

My apology for posting this message here.

I aware we have MAMP users here and I am hoping I can get some info/tips to help me figure if this is a MAMA’s Problem.
I am building an eCommerce site in Magento in MAMP Pro, when I make changes to the PHTML files, sometimes with certain files they requires caches be disable before I can see the changes from my browsers. A few times I was unable to see the changes until I uploading the files to the web server. With the newest beta version that I have not installed a copy on my web server and I am having an issue, that a particular PHTML file, I tried adding/deleting some divs, and refresh, disable/enable caches, but I still can’t see the changes from any of the browsers. I thought and still suspecting that is Magento’s problem, but nobody response (quite typical in that forum because most people are still not familiar with the application) to my question.

I am hoping that perhaps it’s MAMP issue, that maybe something needs to be done in the Terminals to force the caches be cleared, or something related to the PHP - MAMP Pro comes with the latest PHP version think, and is an issue that you MAMP users know.

The MAMP forum is full of spam that makes me wonder if anybody takes care of the forum.

If I change an external php file that is included in a snippet, I have to clear the site cache before the changes will show, but that’s just basic logic. Editing a document automatically clears the cache, so all menus and such are updated to show the latest structure, but how can the system know you’ve edited an external file that gets included? It has nothing to do with MAMP, though.

I’ve used MAMP and MAMP Pro for a while and never encountered this problem. MAMP Pro has a cache on/off setting in the PHP tab of the Server config page. I am pretty sure that it defaults to off but I could be wrong.

This could also very well be an issue with magento’s own cache system.

Ah, being too cheap to go for MAMP Pro, I wasn’t aware of that!

I am a bit confused by your last sentence, are you saying that the Cache is off may actually conflicting with the magento’s own cache system?

No, i don’t know enough about either the php cache or magento to make that suggestion, sorry

Ah NO problem!

By the way, have your gotten the Postfix working properly? I tried both my ISP’ SMTP as well as my domian’s ones. Still, I am getting the timeout error.

@ Susan, I am usually cheap to invest on software too especially when there is a free version to use. Being a newbie to building sites in CMS application and know very little about server, I am very very happy with the MAMP Pro. It’s a great tool for me. Actually I have to thank you because I learned about MAMP from one of your post, and the minute I learned the Pro came with GUI I went ahead purchasing it without trying the free version.
