Aww, crap, I think I might know what the issue is. A while back, I installed plugin (I think) that was supposed to merge a webuser and managaer user into one login. Well, it made a helluva lot of issues with logining into WLPE (something like Manager2Web, I think...). Maybe that messed up something internally in the database, and is causing these issues now?

Does anyone know where I could find the SQL query that creates the web_user-related tables, so I can make sure it’s correct?

Hmm...since WLPE only checks for the modx_web_users table, that’s all I should need to redo, right? Or do I also need to redo the modx_web_user_attributes table?

EDIT: I found the SQL files from the /install folder. So I guess I’ll drop + run the queries, and see if that fixes anything. If that doesn’t work, I don’t have a clue what’s going on...

I dropped and recreated every table web_user-related (save the usergroup ones that had nothing to do w/ the issue at hand) via the SQL commands in the setup.sql file, and it’s still acting up. This isn’t making any sense at all, since there’s no record at all beforehand that it could "match". It’s creating the web_user_extended table alright. It’s just stopping *right* before the OnBeforeAddToGroup event.

IMHO, shouldn’t the script stop once it encounters the "username already exists" error? So could that be a clue as to what’s happening? I know my host recently upgraded some stuff in the database, so I wonder if that had anything to do w/ the issue (it’s not even getting to the "blank" page a previous user got a week or so ago.

Would anyone be willing to look at the database and see if they can find out what the issue is? I’ll create a database account for you.

EDIT 3: One thing I forgot to mention. I accidentally put in my password for the e-mail setting. It seems when that occurs, the error for the e-mail supercedes the username error. Still creates the user based on that data, just like w/ the username error.

That’s why I think there’s an issue code-wise, because no script should allow malformed data like a non-email to be accepted as a e-mail address, I’d think.

you’ll probably get an email duplication error if you don’t remove the emails from the web_user_attributes table.

Yeah. But’s it’s doing that even when that same e-mail doesn’t exist, just like w/ the username. I’ve even put in obviously fake e-mail addresses to test it.

I thought of trying the default WebSignup snippet. Now, on http://symphonicheaven.com/regaccounttest/, it’s saying that the username is missing, even when text is inserted there.

When I assume means that if the field is empty, it returns that error. So that means MODx is emptying the $username data, but why? Could it be that I didn’t upload a file right or something during an upgrade?

I’m going to reupload the core files and see if that helps.

EDIT: Nope, didn’t change anything. Man, this is one weird issue, indeed. Something messed up on the user reg. end, but I can’t tell what it is.

As I said before, even WebSignup was messing up (giving a "you didn’t enter a username" when the user did). And after testing over at another website (w/ a different database, but the same host), I got the same errors, right down to the exact same issues.

So I’m thinking my host has something set wrong (like one time their GZIP wouldn’t work, since MODx was using UTF-8 encoding).

BTW, thanks to everyone’s who tried to help w/ the problem so far.

I just noticed this. Look at Solution # 3b. Would that affect this at all? Since I don’t save any custom fields during registration...
