Is there any good Photoshop for webdesigner book around ?

It’s crazy, but I can’t seem to find any Photoshop book aimed at web designers... do you know of any ?

My goal for this year is to improve my designs by adding depth to them, mastering textures is one of my aims and FireWorks is a bit short... I knew one day I’d have to learn photoshop, I find the interface counter-intuitive at best but hey do we have a choice (before you say GIMP, I’ll say it’s not easier...) ? If you know of a great, intuitive, powerful Mac app then shoot !!! I had hope PixelMator would be it, but it would seem not...

While I am here, do you have web resources handy, I am drowning in Google’s results... sometimes top resources are buried into search engines...

Not Photoshop per se but Sitepoint has some great books on design for the web.

Don’t know if either are great but they are web design specific.

Obviously Smashing Magazine has great references and there are some excellent books on visual design out there.

PS. I don’t use PS that much anymore. I have been using Fireworks almost exclusively now for 5 years and since it is now part of the CS family at adobe I only see it getting better. -J

If I were into that sort of thing, I’d get this book http://www.amazon.com/Illustrations-Photoshop-Designers-William-Rodarmor/dp/0596008597/ref=pd_sim_b_title_2 It doesn’t appear to actually be a tutorial type work, but it looks fascinating. Maybe I’ll get it for my artist boyfriend...thanks for getting me off on this subject, David!

On a side note, you can probably do all of this on GimpShop as well.

@smashingred : Funny I forgot about Corrie Haffly, I had read some great tutorials from her, and I might just buy the PDF !

I have been using Fireworks too, and I kind of agree it’s more than enough in lots of situations, plus I am very comfortable with it, but there are some advanced stuff that I am not sure can be done with FW... I’d really like to cross a qualitative threshold by adding more depth, texture... there are some amazing designs on the web and I’d like to achieve this kind of A-quality designs. I am more inclined toward the artistic stuff than the coding stuff anyway

@Susan, yeah well GIMPshop seems great I should get down to installing X11 but I never took the time...
Indeed that last book looks really interresting, especially when you need to acquire some artistic skills. Funny you point toward a book originally published by several french artists ! I looked for it and it well buried into Amazon.fr... Illustrations Avec Photoshop

Yeah that’s why I mentionned it !

This video strikes me though, at the time I tested, it did not handle layers (a few months back, didn’t thibk it would evolve that fast), now I’ll re-test to check it out !!!

If it really is enough to do web graphics, that amazing news : I love its interface and its blazing speed...
