    Hello All,

I am about to launch my 3rd in a series of about 8 modx websites. I am also trying to integrate Subversion into my development process for a few reasons:

    A. To develop a testing / staging / production environment

    B. I am solo but may be taking on developers soon.

    C. Many of the sites I will be building will all share the same code base but use different templates. I want to build a standard Modx distribution of my own so that I can just push out updates from SVN to many of my sites.

I am curious how others have integrated Subversion into their Modx development process. The areas where I see this could be tricky are:

    A. When and how do you pull database dumps and tie them to a commit / tag / branch.

    B. How do you handle code changes to snippets and such. I have seen where you can simply call an import of a file rather than pasting code into the browser.

    C. How to integrate this when not doing locally hosted development. Meaning I use a development server for dev / staging and a production server for hosting.

From my tests here is what I have come up with:

    1. Install modx on development server and pull down the installed files and a DB dump.

    2. Import this into a new repository and call this rev 1. I have structured my local checkout folder like this:
/code = anything that would go into your web root (ie: www or publich_html folder)
/templates = my template development files including psd comp files
/db = database dumps whenever a significant change is made to the db that would need to be downloaded.

    3. Anytime I want to change a template snippet I would make a text file version to keep in the repository. Then paste the code into the web manager. However i am thinking of making all my templates / snippets / chunks imports from text files to simplify this. However I am not 100% sure of the impact on speed this would have.

I would greatly appreciate if anyone could share their development process or would like to collaborate on creating one.

    Marc
