front-end user input forms and databse question

What I am thinking of is;

A page to input multiple fields of information
A page to search that information and binding entries (explained below)

Sounds simple enough, like an address book of sorts. But here is the hard part each record would need an option to link to another record; parent of, offspring of type bindings.

I could easily do this in M$ Access, but I would like a way to integrate these records into the website and doing it on the web and having the info stored in the modx database would keep things simple.

Is there something similar to this? What would I need to do / learn to make this happen?

The database part is very similar to the msAccess method, mysql is a bit different syntax but in it root it is all sql. You could use eForm2db to do the form db input and take advantage of eForm’s validation.

I have seen a few snippets that will display/edit database tables (did not use any so can’t say how well they work) which could work as starting points.
