SOLVED: integrating reCAPTCHA with modx

I am currently trying to integrate reCAPTCHA (http://recaptcha.net/) for a tell-a-friend snippet i am making.

The example php code works fine on itself but as soon as i try to call the captcha html generating function from a modx snippet the reCAPTCHA won’t show anymore.

Anyone has some clues?

I am using MODx 0.9.5. with recaptcha-php-1.8 (an official php based wrapper library for the reCAPTCHA API).

I found out it relies on a globar var for the urls to the api providing server ($recaptcha_api_server and $recaptcha_api_secure_server). Having register globals off this would not work for me.

I got it working by hardcoding the address on line 118 of recaptchalib.php as follows:

$server = ’http://api.recaptcha.net’;

Any reason why you just didn’t integrate the captcha code that comes with modx?

It’s actually kind of a cool idea, and it also adds some extra features (like audio CAPTCHA) that the built-in method doesn’t have: http://recaptcha.net/learnmore.html

There is captcha code that comes with MODx? Aside from those included in jot and eform i couldn’t find anything and as I could not grasp it’s use quickly just by browsing the source i figured I go look for an alternative myself.

Besides as ZAP pointed out the alternative is not so bad. However the restriction to english language and the inability to freely style the whole thing turned out to be a showstopper for us.
