The web designer put a link to a pdf on our website, when I right click > properties, i get: www.website.com/one.pdf, where is it located?
Is there any way to figure out if it’s stored on modx together with the website, and where?

If that link works, the file is probably stored in the root directory of your site (most likely in the public_html directory). MODx may also be installed in that directory (if so, you’ll see the manager and assets directories there too).

If there are rewrite rules in an .htaccess file in public_html, however, the file and MODx could be somewhere else, but if you find the .PDF file and the manager and assets directories in public_html (using cPanel’s File Manager), you don’t have to worry about that.

We can probably be more help to you if you explain why you want to know and what you are trying to do. smiley

I’m trying to replace that pdf with an updated version.

        Where is the "public_html directory"?

After I sign into Modx, where do I click?
        Site, Resources, Modules, or where?

You should see it if you click on Resources | Manage Files or Elements | Manage Files (depending on your version of MODx). That should take you to the MODx root directory (which is probably public_html in your case, although it won’t say so in the MODx File Manager).

public_html will only be visible if you log onto your host’s cPanel (or equivalent) and use the File Manager to navigate to it. This shouldn’t be necessary if you can get to the file using the method above.

It’s not a bad idea to make sure you ahve a backup copy of the old .PDF file before doing anything.

When I go to Resources > Manage Files, this is what I get (see below). We had to call the web designer to change it for us, he said it’s done via FTP. If that’s the case, is the file stored on Modx?

            Directory listing for:/

            To top level
            Up one level

            Invalid path ’/home/imcdemo/public_html/chamah/’
            Filename Modified File size Options
            This directory is empty.
            Directories: 0
            Files: 0
            Data: 0 B
            Directory writable? No.

Upload feature inhibited - make sure uploads are supported and the directory is writable for PHP.

That file is not "stored" in modx and was not uploaded with modx.

Your best bet is to upload the file via ftp. You can install http://filezilla-project.org/ a free ftp program.
Connect to your server, navigate to where the file is and replace it.
