script.aculo.us - jQuery - mootools : which has better cross-browser support ?

As I go along the process of learning to master using js libraieries (finally more or less chose jQuery), I end up with some concern regarding cross-browser support... might be learning pain, still new at this.

I used some jQuery effects for a MODx powered website I am working on which gives me quite inconsistent results accross the board :

• Firefox plays nicely with effects as intended
• IE6 has a nasty blinking issue though I have dynamically hidden the elements which blinked before starting the effect, still working on it
• IE7 works fine (a good surprise)
• Opera acts like js is disabled pure and simple
• Safari renders awful (the screen "jumps" and blinks), the worst of the bunch

Now don’t get me wrong, maybe those issues can be solved, but I didn’t find many leads on jQuery discussion group about them (though I found a gem among the result). I’ll sure dig deeper there are probably a way around those issues. I am learning.

Yet, I wondered what your experience was with js libraieries, and which in your opinion has the better cross-browser support ?

I used some JQuery plugins recently and noticed most of them are buggy in some way. I decided to only use the "official" plugins when I needed something to just work. I also consider other plugins by authors who made the "official" plugins such as Paul Bakaus (I’d feel safer working with his other plugins).

I tend to like MooTools quite a bit because it can be extended so easily and still offer a greater degree of cross-compatibility among browsers. Mix it up with Ext and you have yourself an excellent way to render a variety of effects and UI components. Plus, the majority of add-ons for MooTools are quite solid...many of them in use with MODx.
