hey guys i dnt know how many of you guys are doing splicing for the websites, but i woudl like you guys to tell me how many of you use spacer image for the blank spaces and how many of you just give dimensions to the td because i want to know which is better. and also which will be safe and also load fast
I also do not use table tags for the layouts of my websites. Also I never see the need of using spacer images.
Anyways what you were asking was how much of us do use tables for layout if I understood correctly. So to give an answer to your question I can only guess but I would expect the number to be very small.
I no longer use tables either but digging back into the cobwebs of my brain for when I did I remember this:
Some browsers won’t render a TD with no content properly so you have to put something in the space. You can use a but that has some height so it wont work if you want a very short TD. I would usually use a one pixel transparent gif (1t.gif) and stretch it by the dimension that I want to enforce and let it just be 1 pixel on the other axis. If I don’t need to enforce either axis I just left it as 1px by 1px. The reason for leaving it as 1px on at least one axis is that it is difficult for the user get image like behaviors in what look like void spaces.
Do yourself a favor, spend some time looking into table free layouts using <div> and CSS. Tables should only be used for tabular data.

I would agree with all of the above. With CSS and xhtml (correctly done and accessible) you can create any type of layout you would like.
