IE6, Doctypes, Menu items and whitespace...

After a whole afternoon trying to debug this I’ve managed to get it narrowed down to this ( viewed in IE6 for windows )....

... including the Doctype seems to be the culprit when it comes to adding a blank space after the menu item.

I officially give up for the day.

Any comments along the lines of "Throw Internet Explorer and the horse it rode in on out the window" appreciated.

( think it has something to do with the font-style and font-family as it goes )

It seems to be the italic font-style that’s causing this. Remove that and it lines up as you want it with the doctype (which should force standards-compliance - go figure). You may have to use conditional comments to force the text right by a couple of pixels for IE6 if it matters that much to your design.
