I am currenlty working with openlaszlo to build some site components.
I am hoping someone here might have experience with extracting information from ModX in a XML format.
anything would help really.
one thing that might be nice, is a outline of important SQL calls for each module..
in this way one could quickly write php pages that return the data in XML.

Has onyone else worked with Laszlo?

This will get you the contents of a ModX document... to populate your content region

Getting the menu as an xml tree... try hacking Wayfinder... the logic is there but you’ll need to write output as xml instead of html... so you could drop an instance of your modified Wayfinder into a document, set it’s content type to xml and use the api library to get the contents of this xml doc menu.. voila, openlazlo menu xml feed.

Using chunk templates for Wayfinder you can have any kind of output you want, unordered lists, ordered lists, tables, consecutive <a> tags, xml... you write the tags, Wayfinder fills in the blanks (placeholders).

Would be nice, although it is easy to do it yourself, but time-consuming.

I’m not ultimately familiar with all of the great snippets out there but what was said about placeholders is pretty standard for many of them, so the same technique could apply... ie: use ditto to get a listing of docs in a folder/container and set the output to xml... then format in openlazlo as a calendar widget of posts using the created date, or tagging documents and creating a data-grid of documents that could be sortable...

Lots of options here for output. This is one of the truly great things about ModX, the flexibility. It really is just a great CMS. How you ultimately display that content is completely open-ended and easy to adapt.

For now I am still having some issue with Laszlo, that I need to work through..
Hopefully I can have a new modX site running in early 07.

hmm OpenLaszlos "DHTML" (why not Ajax) support is limited at time, but I heared that there’ll be a breeze of wind next year ;-)
Means that I’ll "embed" OpenLazlo into my projects, if needed. Ajax plus Flash alternative improves the interface of any site really, if there are enough accessibility features (which means to be standard in 2006).

Grid-Model structures in "web-apps" like modx are definitively the direction sign.
