Hope everyone is enjoying their holidays :]

I’m new to ModX and really like what I see with it so far. I was wondering if any of the more experienced ModX users would be able to offer some advice or recommended plug ins that may help me to use ModX for a certain purpose.

I’m hoping to use ModX for something like a restaurant review website where users can submit their own reviews of a restaurant. The available restaurants to review would be pre-defined by the site owner, so there would be no need to worry about people reviewing a restaurant that doesn’t already exist on the website. Ideally the reviews would be entered through a form on the website, then submitted to the ModX back end where they are moderated before being published to the site. For example, is there a way to have any registered users be able to submit a ’resource’ to the website but have them be set to unpublished by default? Once the review is published, registered users could then ideally leave some good old "you suck" or "great job" comments on the review.

I have an idea of how I would build this type of system without an open source CMS, but the appeal of ModX as the CMS platform is obvious. I’d really appreciate anyone who might be able to help point me in the right direction for using ModX for something like this.

    Thanks all.... and happy holidays!

You can use JOT for this, I did it this way: Make a chunk with the name Comments , inside [!Jot? &subscribe=`1` &pagination=`10`!] and save it.

In a review you just add the folowing line (at the bottom): {{Comments}} and it will show a form.

You can add [!Jot? &subscribe=`1` &pagination=`10`!] manually to every review too, but {{Comments}} is shorter and harder to forget.

      Greetings,
      Ricardo

Thanks for the tip about jot, Ricardo! I really appreciate it.

Out of curiosity: Would anyone know if ModX has a similar plugin to this wordpress one? http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/tdo-mini-forms/

The plug in basically lets users/guests submit posts from a form, which then automatically get entered into Wordpress as ’drafts’ before being published to the website after moderator/admin approval. This is essentially what I’m hoping to be able to do with ModX for user submitted content.

Not familiar with that plugin but you could accomplish this by letting logged in users create content from the end and then set "Published default" to "No" in the backend (under Tools->Configuration). This way, any resources created are not published by default and you can go in and publish them later.
