And to answer your question hostile 17 is something from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. A character, Spike, was named that when he was caught by a US governmental unit.

and thanks for replying - it reaffirms my feeling that it was just a misreading - funny how you would think with words right there in front of you that it would be easy to read and understand, and yet I know for myself that if I reread a comment I often find that I can have completely different take on it the second or third time.
