Fine PHP functions not working inside modx

Hi,
I’ve the following snippets. They get the six most recent files in a directory and create a mini image gallery. The work fine as functions out of modX (with the necesary modifications), but not inside. Can anybody help me?.

Do you have this in your template so the image paths will be correct?

is a new adition, I don’t need it. I’ve change the original and more elegant code for this one trying to make it run, without success.
