Hey All,
I got into a little argument recently about weather or not one should use the existing components within ModX for most situations rather then creating a whole new set of tables and classes in order to build the functionality we need. For example, building something like say a blog, should i just use the built in modResourse class to facilitate this and use template variables for any additional fields? Or should i create a new table called blog and create all my own classes to represent this.
Or perhaps a store with a listing of items for sale with price, amount in inventory ect.. ect..
Im sure that there are no hard rules as to when you should you should build your own component to handle your own objects but im just wondering if the community has any kind of rule of thumb as to which way to go with it and what things might one want to consider when building new entities into modx vs re-using the existing ones.
In my opinion is about the size of your project and budget.
If you need something fast than use the MODX Resources.
If you have only 10 products use MODX Resources
If you what something like amazon that you definitely need your own custom tables.
