This will probably cause quite a stir...

My girlfriend just purchased a eCommerce package from Network Solutions much to my dismay since I was giving MODx a HARD look and recommendation due to the way in which SEO can be catered the way you want. She has 30 days to get a refund from Network Solutions and I am out to prove why she should use MODx. I also took a look at their templates and they are butt ugly! When I asked if I could make a change to a template, they said certainly - for a one time charge of $499.00!

I am new to MODx, still researching, and could use some help convincing the honey. For example:
MODx Web CMS Gets eCommerce Add-on
    http://www.cmswire.com/cms/web-cms/modx-web-cms-gets-ecommerce-addon-001541.php

Is eCommerce safe and secure using MODx?

I am VERY familiar with SEO, google, spiders, site maps, etc. I have had websites for about 20 years now and still get top placement in search engines for what I believe is the #1 reason: My pages are build using as much SEO strategies allowable while proving great reader information. Network Solutions eCommercs has Predefined Pages found by this path:
    http://www.networksolutions.com/e-commerce/index.jsp
    ...Click on How It Works
then... Test Drive - See How it Works
    then... Pages

I tried to save the link but they force login if tried that way!...

Anyway, if you hit EDIT for any of these predefined pages, you are given the chance to edit ONLY:
    Page Name:
    Page Title:
    Friendly Url:
    Meta Keywords:
    Meta Description:

I called Network Solutions and asked if I had the ability to add additional pages outside of the predefined pages. They said yes - unlimited. Every page, including all predefined pages plus any custom pages, will have only the above items that I can edit along with the content area (which is really one big box for as much asp code you want I guess).

If I had a perfect CMS, it would not only give me the ability to change ALL of the page portions above, but it would also allow me to change other SEO goodies like:
    1. The text in the Header of the page (assuming I have text in the Header)
    2. The Titles and URL’s of any navigation whether in the header, side navigation, or footer areas.
    3. The Alt Text attributes for any images on each page
    4. Assuming my template had 2 paragraphs in the Content area, the ability to customize the H1 & H2 Paragraph Headers along with the H1 & H2 Paragraphs.

Here is my question for MODx: Am I able to customize the CMS to have open fields for all of these SEO ingredients?

Another quick question: If I want to create a Anchor Text Link to another web page withing my domain (by reference to that pages Title), does MODx allow me to pull up a list of my other pages and quickly drop that page (and the text link) in while I am typing away in the Content area?

One last quick question: Does Google, in any way, penalize MODx just because they use templates?

It appears Network Solutions is much too restrictive and from what I have read online, there are consistent reports of unethical behavior. Please help me convince my girlfriend as to why she should use MODx!

    Much Appreciated!!

Here is my question for MODx: Am I able to customize the CMS to have open fields for all of these SEO ingredients?
Yes... you can edit all the page "variables" that you want as well as create and use as many custom variables as you want (called Template variables or TV).

Another quick question: If I want to create a Anchor Text Link to another web page withing my domain (by reference to that pages Title), does MODx allow me to pull up a list of my other pages and quickly drop that page (and the text link) in while I am typing away in the Content area?
The content eiding provides a feature via TinyMCE that provides a pull down menu of all the pages on the site for quick linking, however the anchor text will need to be entered manually. However, there is an add-on resource that can provide custom pull down menus which could be used to create links, but these would not be in the general content area, they would need to be in a pre-defined spot in your layout. Also you could create a custom tool to generate links as well by using the title of the page you are linking to (or any other data field or TV) as the anchor text.

One last quick question: Does Google, in any way, penalize MODx just because they use templates?
I am not a SEO expert, but I dont see why this would happen. As far as the world is concerned the template is just HTML and there is no implication that it is a template or a hand codded page.

I am new to MODx, still researching, and could use some help convincing the honey. For example:

As far as I know (and I could very well be wrong here) KiweeCommerce is no longer being developed. However there are several other eCommerce resources available for MODx. The most popular solution for Ecommerce with MODx is using FoxyCart. See the article covering FoxyCart in the MODxCMS website.

Magento is also popular if you need a more powerful e-Commerce engine.

You won’t find a better CMS for accomplishing your SEO goals than MODx. It does nothing at all to hinder you and provides a ton of robust infrastructure for getting things the way you want and making the site easy to maintain (not to mention oodles of help at no charge from the very congenial MODx community).

You also get open source code you can customize, although it’s almost never necessary because MODx is built to be extensible and has a very rich API.

As far as Google goes, I’m not particularly good at SEO stuff, but Google loves the site in my sig so there’s no way there’s any penalty.
