hi all.. new to modx.. so far LOVE it!!!
was wondering if anyone knows if a News/Headlines rotator can be created in Modx that runs dynamically from a news section/blog. I am building a sports team website and they need to have this feature on their homepage. i would like to make one somewhat like the one on yahoo.com (please refer to the image attached) with title, description, and thumbnails.
i have looked in the Modx Website Gallery and do not see any sites with this type of plugin/module, etc. please help?
any tutorial, reference or existing plugin
I recently coded a rotating ad display - the ads were items in a list (<li> html tags) (or list within a list if more than one ad was to displayed at a time) and it used an existing jquery script to rotate the items on the list.
I'm sure getresources and a few custom templates could produce a list of news/headlines and create some classes for the js and css to target.
That would be my approach
I will look up in my notes which script I used - seemed pretty good

I'm very fond of the tabbed rotator here
http://www.raymondselda.com/demo/tabbed-rotator/
Since I use Evo, I use Wayfinder or Ditto to create the list of links for the tab, and Ditto for the content. They both can be set to order/sort by menuindex to control the order, pagetitle for alphabetic ordering, or by create date. For Revo, it's probably even easier using two getResources calls. Of course, the positioning and styling is all in the CSS. I've done the basic rotator as provided with the tabs on top and on the bottom.
Maybe I am missing the obvious but I see no way to edit my post.
to the first I would like to point out that when I wrote "existing 21" I meant a script developed and kindly shared by someone else.
to the post immediately before this one - I would have added a return before the second link to make it clearer that there were two links
Arrrrrgh!
I guess when my cat walked across my keyboard - or perchance it was new over zealous spellchecker/corrector* "existing script" became "existing 21"
are we all confused yet?
* try typing in jquery - presently my machine 'corrects it' to query as soon as I type the space after the word, this makes it all to easy to end up with incorrect words - and of course it is all to easy when proofing one's own writing to read what you thought you wrote rather than what is on the page.
