I’ve seen these ’submit your email to get newsletter’ features on websites but NOT exactly sure how they work..??... or exactly what you call them ? Is it a "registration" ?
I’m presuming that email addresses get added to the database...but how are they retrieved to send out newsletters ?
If someone can point me in the right direction I’d appreciate it...as I’m NOT sure what keywords to google.
Many thanks...
Jann
As well as that, many hosts wouldn’t let you send out emails on their servers, so many of these types of signups are from hosted email services, which give you the code to insert in your website.
Start by checking out www.campaignmonitor.com, but there are many many others.
(no connection, just a user)
Sorry but if your host won’t let you send emails from the server get anouther host. That been said hosted mailing list services are better if you are gonna have more than an 100 or so members.
You may have to try it out or ask them, have a look in their help files.
I just quickly Googled and found this from someone who can’t send out a Zen cart newsletter, they found this term:
The SMTP relay limit for our shared hosting accounts is 1000 per day. Unfortunately, this limit cannot be increased. If you need more than 1000 relays per day, you will need to move to our Virtual Dedicated or Dedicated Server plan. These plans also have a 1000 relay limit per day but that limit can be increased.
This was from November this year, so fairly current.
Some hosts only allow a certain number through in a time period, or throttle the connections so it runs very slow, but maybe you will have no issues - especially if the numbers are low. The problem sometimes comes is actually realizing this is happening as you may not get any error, so you just think it is working.
Ahhh...OK -- I do know that my GoDaddy plan has 250 relays....which if I’m understanding this correctly I would be allowed up to ’250’ emails to be sent. [??] This feature is needed for a non-profit and I don’t think they’ll have that many recipients....so maybe it’ll be OK.
...
The only other design solution would be to just use a "mailto" link on the website page and have users "register" by sending an email which would then be collected in a designated email-box. I may have to do this in the short-term anyway...because I need to get this up-and-running in the next few days...and I don’t think I’ll be able to learn all I need to in this short of time.
Thank you for your help....it’s appreciated.
