    Hi,

    I found MODx last week and have been very impressed so far - I’m using it initially for the research stage of my dissertation but it looks set to be the most suitable platform.

    I’ve currently setup the basic template without any issues, but have a few questions.

    First of all, is it possible to edit exactly what the [*content*] tag displays. I have CSS setup to style each individual post, but currently with the use of that tag, the entire content is contained in the same way.
    you can see what I’m on about with the two sites here (the second being how I want the first to look);
    My installation is at: http://marksweb.co.uk/modx/
    Which will hopefully take place of: http://shuwarriors.net

    Also, is there something in the documentation about how to put in things like the login form etc to your template?

    thanks.

      The [*content*] tag inserts the Content field of the document being displayed. Edit the fields for document #1 to whatever you want on your home page.

      To add snippets, just put the snippet tags [[SnippetName]] or [!SnippetName!] wherever you want their output to appear. For example, login forms are usually in the sidebar, so you would put the [!WebLogin!] snippet in the sidebar of the template. thanks - that sounds like it shouldn’t be too difficult.

        One other thing thats confusing me - I’ve setup more content which appears in the menu, although when you then click on each item, the page to contain the content hasn’t been created - how can I fix this?

          If you use the Wayfinder snippet for your menu, it will create the menu from the existing published pages so the menu will always be accurate. It can create almost any kind of menu you might want.

            My problem with pages not displaying was that I had friendly URLs turned on. As soon as I turned that off everything loaded perfectly - the settings for friendly URLs looked as though it was all fine - is there something else that needs to be set as I’d quite like to have that turned on.

            thanks.

              marksweb sounds like you have a problem with mod_rewrite not being enabled on your server or a problem with your .htaccess file.

                When you turn on FURLS, you need to rename ht.access to .htaccess in the root of the MODx install. You may need to edit it if your MODx install is in a subdirectory. If you’ve done that and it’s still not working, then as rthrash says, mod_rewrite may not be enabled on your host.
