    Hi,

I have designed a website that has 2 columns and I wish to be able to edit content in the 2 columns. I’ve added the tag [*content*] to my template and can edit the first column but can’t see how I can add an editable area to the second column... Is this possible with MODx? If so what tag do I use?

    Thanks

    J9

You can use TVs (template variables) for this

I’ve had a play with TV... Is there a way to add more than 1 [*content*] tag to enable a design to have 2 or more columns with the full editing capabilities to all columns/ areas you create. So when you go to edit a the page the user can add what ever they wish to either column/area (i.e. add text, images, links etc)

With the T.V. I get the impression as the creator of the template I have to specify what the user can add to the T.V. They are not as flexible as the [*content*].

Any suggestions on anything else I can use?

          Thank you.

Should be possible still with TVs, use a textarea TV and set the widget to be Rich Text. Then style the placement using divs to make the [*content*] the first column and the TV the second column. By making the TV a Rich Text Widget the user should be able to add anything in it

            Does this help?

Most new users get the hang of chunks quicker than TVs.

But TVs are one of the most powerful and flexible components to MODx. You can also position chunks into your template. Within these chunks you can add TV’s. The TV’s you can again wrap in a div class. So, between the chunks, TV’s and CSS classes (or IDs) you can do almost anything and make it all wonderfully dynamic at the same time, plus making it very user friendly for the site owner. Be sure to give good descriptions when you create your TVs as they will really help explain to the the site owner what it is they do. You can create as many TVs as you like. You do not have to use them all on your pages. If you have certain sets of TVs that go with different categories of pages you can opt to use entirely different templates.

Options galore as the saying goes. MODx is very flexible and there is no one "right way" of doing things.
