Menu Like LLBean

Greetings everyone!

I am very new to this new world of CMS and in particular MODx. I have done one site in Joomla, because that’s what "everyone" is using...or so I was told. After I found out that I couldn’t control enough of the Joomla environment, I decided to search the net and found MODx.

I have completed the tutorial that I found over over Mary’s Pad...I would recommend that to anyone just starting out. Now, that I have a very basic understanding that MODx can do anything that anyone can think up, I have a desire to create a menu similar to the one that is on the LLBean web site.

I have a link to their menu here: http://screencast.com/t/ZDIyNjExM2Mt
This was captured with Jing, which I find to be one of the best tools available to share images and videos.

The main site of LLBean is: http://www.llbean.com/

Any help will be greatly appreciated and I hope to have a site or two to share in the near future!

Jon

That’s just a simple variation on a basic CSS dropdown. Wayfinder has some excellent documentation. You can set it up to generate any kind of menu you want.

That LL Bean menu looks somewhat tricky to me. Each dropdown contains three separate menus in three columns. The first item in each of the three menus appears to be to the equivalent of a MODx container document. I don’t doubt that Wayfinder could do it, but it would be a challenge (for me anyway).

kongondo wrote i nice tutorial for this menu -> http://www.creativeinjection.com/megamenutest.html#

maybe it will be of use for you

It’s possible to make a menu like this. I’ve done it once. I used Wayfinder via the pdf book described earlier in this thread. And in my case I used Ditto to sort out the menuitems in each column in the MegaMenu:

http://www.thewebsqueeze.com/web-design-tutorials/how-to-make-a-mega-drop-down-menu.html

But you really have to know your way around HTML and CSS on this one (even it’s not THAT complicated).

You could hand-code the top level, as that’s not likely to change. Then use two or three Wayfinder calls within that structure for each submenu. That way you could use the outerClass parameter for those submenu UL containers to specify which way they should go for the left and right oriented submenus.

You guys are the greatest! I guess I have some learning to do, but at least it’s doable and with the support from the forum...who could go wrong!

Thanks and I hope to have something for review in the near future.

If anyone else has other thoughts, please feel free to keep them coming!
