How/Where to put a tag in menu

I am trying to put a <span> tag around a wayfinder menu link but not having success.
This is the wayfinder menuRows chunk that I am trying to get to incorporate the <span>.

<li [+wf.id+] [+wf.classes+] ><a href="[+wf.link+]" title="[+wf.title+]" [+wf.attributes+]>[+wf.linktext+]</a> [+wf.wrapper+] </li>

Help would be much appreciated.

This should do the trick:

<li [+wf.id+] [+wf.classes+]><span><a href="[+wf.link+]" title="[+wf.title+]" [+wf.attributes+]>[+wf.linktext+]</a></span> [+wf.wrapper+]</li>

Or am I not following?

That didn’t quite work - but with a little trial and error - this did! So posted if it helps others.
