if the modx developers can put some cool looking clean templates, not the year 1998 ms frontpage looking ones, modx can be more popular. I wonder why there isnt literally "any" good looking templates around.
we can use & control cms but we re not the masters of css&html, before developing codes could you please consider my advices?

I’m currently applying a design to a modx template and it’s not very hard...the beginners guide wiki and the superb "almost complete guide to creating menus in modx using wayfinder" are all you really need.

I can’t see the point using modx if you don’t want to deal with templating...if you don’t want to bother with the design of them there are lots of resources around for simply buying (rather inexpensively) xhtml/css designs - turning those into templates with menus using wayfinder is probably 3 days of learning tops...and after you go through it once it will be a breeze from then on...

I know at our shop we don’t turn to the developers to create designs, we get the designers to do that - developers (that would be me) simply apply the design via sliced up photoshop images, with good, sound, cross browser compliant css and xhtml - in fact, since starting to use modx when I sit down to apply a design I get the "template" to display in an index.html file with css and images all worked out before even thinking about applying it to modx - once that is done it’s a snap to get it into a modx template - with firebug you can overcome any display issues in a snap...

I’m an ex IT guy who has basically started a creative agency and is doing most of the development, and I have to say, there are tons of resources out there for getting up to speed on web development - I use Eric Meyer’s css reset and go from there, but heck, you can pick one of like 7 css frameworks, join the community, and off you go...

LAMP/eclipse/subversion/snipplr/photoshop and off you go! If you don’t want to pay for photoshop you can even use inkskape...

the short of it is - you should create your own!

        You’re both right.

For training i’ve converted some blog oriented worpress templates but never released them beacause i didn’t find time to give a good documentation with them.

This may change with Revolution soon since we will be able to package theme.

This will change with Revolution; a complete set of MODx Revolution components can be distributed with one or many prebuilt sample sites and "themes" available, and can be made available for users to install directly from the manager. In addition, core distributions can be constructed with such things pre-configured. In both cases, all the administrator will have to do is run an installation and edit the value of a system setting to control a "theme" across the components and whatever sample Resources come with it.
