Hiding certain templates from selectable list

Is there a way of only making certain templates appear in the dropdown list when a user is creating a new document. I have about 6 templates for a site I’m making but the client will only ever need to use 3 of them, can I hide the rest dependant on the user?

Not by default... I can think of some complicated solutions for this, but nothing simple. Anyone else have any ideas?

I think that you can use a plugin to hide some options. Maybe ManagerManager can do this? It is a good idea since I always have problems with clients and too many templates to choose from. I usually use naming to group the templates in the list. And now as of 1.0 the categories are included in the list so you can even use a category to group the templates to use. I did not notice this new feature until now... very cool!!!
