    Hi everyone,

After months and months of trying different CMS’s and moving forward without real descisions, it seems that modxcms is definitly the best choice.

    The problem
the revolution (and evolution admin themes ) are not client or user friendly.
Its (in my humble opinion) a shame that this great cms has such a basic not end user friendly admin interface.

I really like the movable type interface and plan to build an admin theme based on the movable type structure, OR is anyone out here has a better alternative for the admin interface that can be used by end users/clients like something like the wordpress interface or movable type I would love to hear.

Else I would like to start a little project by converting some of the nice web2.0 layout styles used in the movabletype admin interface and bring that to modxcms revolution.
What are your toughts about this, would love to hear? or perhaps someones feels this frustration too and has a good alternative. Thx

      This is what i Mean:

No offense to the current theme but I feel this one above is so much userfriendlyer, although it should not be a clone great inspiration could be taken from above
      with improvements

        ...and evolution admin themes...
        Have you tried out ManagerManager?
Then customize the manager home page and hide the tree
        as described in old wiki.

          Why are they not so?

Having used both products extensively, I find Wordpress’s UI extremely efficient - if you’re creating a blog. If not, you’re in deep trouble. Moveable Type is a good interface, but often slow and takes too many workarounds to do what should be simple tasks.

Else I would like to start a little project by converting some of the nice web2.0 layout styles used in the movabletype admin interface and bring that to modxcms revolution.
Feel free to create your own theme, but I think Revolution is far more "web2.0" than either of those; WP and MT still use straight table-based outputs or div layering; Revolution’s UI is mostly JS-based and can be altered and extended far easier.

If you’ve got criticisms of the UI, we’re all for hearing them. But you need to state them clearly, and specifically. Simply stating that the UI should be changed because you like another is not good enough.

Truely agree, thefore I don’t have the idea to copy it 1:1 in anyway just to grabb some nice design ideas and create something that is very easy (read stupid) to use for end users and clients, who dont have the technological expertise to navigate to the revolution manager theme.

I believe the modxcms interface is state of the art codewise, It was just a thought to just port some of the MT interface to a modxcms for personal usage, and anyone who wanted something like that. It would most likely be less code perfect but better fit for my own particular clients usages. Just a thought to feel how others here on the board would think about this therefore the poll wink I dont suggest the main theme should be changed in anyway, just to have a alternative that is more simple (stupid) for the end users that maybe need to login to there website and edit there pages.

I think the modxcms is great and I dont want to stirr any fuzz or be rude,
Just feel like the interface is not fit for non technical people who need to edit there pages.
Having had clients to work with wordpress was a big task, removing all unneeded menu options with user roles they managed to get along
it still was more user friendly in my opinion because of the way the page was organized. Every CMS and interface has it flaws and issues.

I don’t feel like you’re being rude at all; don’t worry about that. I just haven’t heard many suggestions or specifics about how Revolution’s UI could become more simpler for users or editors. It’s hard to improve a product without specifics or direction on how to do it.

I’m not completely unbiased, but I’ve used an awful lot of UIs over the years (including WP) and I find Revolution’s to be one of the most user-friendly, especially in the latest incarnation with Quick Update and Quick Create. Everything I need on a regular basis is right there and the stuff I need less often is not far away and is relatively easy to find.

I wonder if we’re talking about the level of complexity of the UI, here. The amount of stuff on the screen in Revo is somewhat overwhelming until you get used to it, but having it all there makes me many times more productive than I would be with a simple, sparse UI that made me travel to reach the stuff I need.

Extjs gives a "dev look" which is very professional but doesn’t really feel user friendly.
I’ve read that the theme will be refined later.

I personally find Revolution’s manager theme to be quite nice. In my mind, at least, the layout just makes sense.

I agree that the WordPress UI is great for blogs, but I don’t really find WP’s to be any more user friend than Revolution’s.

I’m still interested to see what you can come up with, though. laugh
