I have a couple issues with my css file, which I’ll try to explain. I used a template and CSS stylesheet from another static website I designed and inserted the wayfinder for the navigation and other elements according to the WIKI tutorial. I uploaded the files via FTP in my assets folder as the tutorial directed. Now I’m trying to make additional modifications to my css file through ModX rather than the FTP. First problem, my template is recognizing some of the elements of the stylesheet such as the navigation and the container elements but nothing in the content area, so that is at least telling me I have my links correct but that I need to make more modifications to get the rest of the css file to work properly. I went to Tools > Configuration > Interface & Features and set the link to my css file. I wasn’t sure how much of the URL was needed so I tried couple options but neither seems to have any impact. When I go into Edit my document, I’m using the TinyMCE editor and when I click on the edit css link, it shows the css file that the document is using is in the plugins folder.
So to make a long story short, first issue is how do I get the correct css file to come up in the TinyMCE editor so that I can edit the css properties. I’ve also gone into the file manager and accessed the css file that way and the changes still aren’t working.
Using the File Manager (Resources > Manage Files) has always worked for me in the past. If the file’s permissions are correct I don’t see why there would be an issue. Make sure you’re clicking the Edit button (green checkbox icon) and not the View button (magnifying glass). The Save button will appear below the code. Remember to clear your cache afterwards just to be on the safe side (Site > Clear Cache).
Personally, I like to edit my files locally and then re-upload them to the FTP server and avoid any browser editing. The Textmate/Transmit workflow makes this a snap.
Thanks for your feedback. I’ve figured out the best way for me to update my css file, but I still would like to know how to make my stylesheet available for the TinyMCE editor so that my non-html/css client can edit the page and apply the styles appropriately.
Hi,
go to Tools -> Configuration -> Interface & Features -> CSS selectors
there you can type in your css-selectors, which will then be available in the wysiwyg-editor
Okay, I tried that and it doesn’t make any sense. I just need the formatting for H1, H2, H3, paragraph, list to render correctly according to the stylesheet. When I entered these selectors where indicated in the configuration, they showed up in the Styles drop down list and the Format drop down list for these selectors was still the wrong formatting.
What path did you use in Tools > Configuration > Interface & Features?
In Path to CSS file I used
home/mkwebcon/public_html/stclementmo/assets/templates/stclement/css/stylesheet.css
I also used just: /assets/templates/stclement/css/stylesheet.css
Both paths seem to work as the stylesheet is rendering my actual web documents correctly - my issue is with the TinyMCE editor. I would like for my non-HTML clients to be able to edit the documents using the TinyMCE editor or the QuickEdit feature.
Using assets/templates/... works for me (without the initial /) but it doesn’t render all the CSS properly.
