I know about ManagerManager but why overcomplicate things.

Why hack the manager when you can do it using multiple templates?
What happens if my site has 20 TVs and 1 template and 1000 pages? How do you do this in MM? Every-time you create a page you need to change the MM configuration.

I’m scratching my head over this huh. If you can use templates and your site is based on templates why would you use "inline rules". This reminds me of Joomla’s way of doing things.

The difference between joomla and MODx, is that in joomla someone else designed
what we are disscusing how to design, in this thread.

      The editor role.

        Cipa,

It all depends on the needs of the particular website. Your arguments seem to be from a "single approach from all situations" kind of perspective. Of course, some huge websites with 10’s of TVs might be much LESS manageable in this approach.

However, consider different scenarios - the code example I posted was one template from a small 20 page website I developed. Approaching the website "normally", I needed 8 different templates to manage these 20 pages. By using this "inline" technique with PHx, I was able to reduce that to 2 different templates. This makes updating much more manageable, IMHO, and I can quickly scan over the markup and see what is happening when I go to update.

I do agree that in your case is ok to use "inline design". I guess it’s all a matter of choice. The only issue I see is that the address TV must be hidden on some pages and you would have to use MM to do that.

For some templates I do it myself but usually the "inline design" part is contained in a chunk.

I have completed my first version of a new snippit called ifTemplate. I am not totally aware of how best to go about distributing this code for testing, but I have decided to start a new thread for it. Please refer to the following thread to post comments about this new snippit, which will allow you to insert a chunk in a template (or anywhere), based on the current template set for the document.
