I have suffered through several recent nightmares where specific host requirements require endless testing, investigation, code modifications etc. You know: issues that makes you pull your hair out and waste all your time.
I want to avoid this in the future. I have wasted so much time in a failing attempt to get a contact form to function this week. Another host made a mess of the install and I later found out it was an older Windows server. Total waste of time.
So, how abut a list of great HOSTS that do NOT present hassles with installing and configuring MODx? Hosts that do not present issues with contact forms, manager sessions, database issues etc.
It would be great to present potential clients a list of host choices that WORK. I guess the flip side is to know which hosts present problems with MODx as well. I guess a list of tips for determining if a host is a good match for MODx or not would be nice as well.
Sometimes the whole MODx deployment and site development goes so smoothly and other times you waste so much time you are working for minimum wage!
Thoughts?
Thanks!

Windows servers are petty neat, and we have found that MODx just loves our servers with no problems at all.
I would recommend you check out the hosting partners page, to my knowledge these are tried and tested MODx web hosts.

I’m using "Go Daddy" for my hosting. They had MODx 1.0 available as an ’application’ to install...so my installation was really easy. The modx reviews on Go Daddy’s applications feature had other users offering praise.
I’m just trying to get through a tutorial to see how to use modx...which is why I came back to this forum.

Thats interesting. Its nice to see that some hosts actually have MODx installs. You usually see Drupal and Joomla etc...

I’ve had good luck with Site5 for my sites. They are rather responsive to customer requests (I asked for gzip support on Saturday and had it Monday on shared box) and the CEO is active in their forums (I am too, but that’s another story).
The only downside is they don’t offer VPS yet (Q1 ’10 est launch), and they don’t have auto installer for MODx (Still bugging CEO about that one
)
If you wanna check out the control panel let me know.
If you want a VPS server check out WiredTree (also amazing support... I worry if a ticket sits unanswered for 10 mins)
