    Anywhere on your travels?

    It’s a basic theme/template I can build up using CSS and Chunks, Here’s my
    requirements:

    • Nav bar on the left
    • Header/Footer Image space
    • Content area in the middle
    • Optin box on the right
    • Commenting option at the bottom
    As stated I can add with chunks, or take away from the template but some
    help getting close to that layout would be very much
    appreciated.

    Also, if this template doesn’t exist could a template like that be built using a plain template/ chunks/ and Variables?

    See the problem is I can use chunks and add variables but not to good at coding, I’m trying my best to learn but that’s what CMS is about right laugh.

    Thank you so much,
    Louis

      There are lots of Wordpress themes that can be easily ported to modx since modx just uses plain HTML/CSS

      Just view source, copy and paste.

      This is a very simple 3 column layout (although they are dying slowly)

      I whipped this up in 10 minutes:
      <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN"
         "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd">

      <html lang="en">
      <head>
      	<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8">
      	<title>[*pagetitle*] | [(site_title)]</title>
      	<meta name="generator" content="TextMate http://macromates.com/">
      	<meta name="author" content="Jay Gilmore">
      	<!-- Date: 2008-10-05 -->
      	<style type="text/css" media="screen">
      		body{width:960px;margin:0px auto;}
      		div{border:1px solid #333;}
      		#header{height:200px;position:relative;}
      		#nav,#content,#subconent{float:left;margin-right:20px;}
      		#nav, #subconent{width:240px;}
      		#content{width:440px}
      		#footer{clear:both;}
      	</style>
      </head>
      <body>
      	<div id="header">
      		{{header}}
      	</div>
      	<div id="nav">
      		<ul>
      			<li><a href="link">link</a></li>
      		</ul>
      	</div>
      	<div id="content">
      		[*content*]
      	</div>
      	<div id="subcontent">
      		{{subcontent}}
      	</div>
      	<div id="footer">
      		{{footer}}
      	</div>
      </body>
      </html>

        This site of mine has a three-column layout that works fairly well: http://wordsmatter.softville.com/index.htm

        It’s not a MODx site, but it does have a left nav section (no comment section, though). I ported the template to MODx pretty easily for use at the site in my sig and I’ve ported most of it to MODx Revolution (alpha) on my local machine with very little trouble. The original template came from Thierry Koblentz of TJK Design http://tjkdesign.com/ if you want to start from the original.

        Three-column designs are fading fast becuase it’s just so much work to get them right and work around the various browser bugs they inevitably reveal.

          There’s lots of templates in the Resources; they have expandable thumbnails so you can get a better idea of what they’ll look like.
