    I’m trying to install Evolution 1.0.2 on my local machine (Mac 10.6). I’ve already got a db existing and checked the config.inc.php file on another local site, this is what I have:

    $conf[’db’][’username’] = ’root’;
    $conf[’db’][’password’] = ’supersecretpassword’;
    $conf[’db’][’hostname’] = ’127.0.0.1’;

    So, when installing modx, I downloaded the recent release, changed permissions on assets /images /flash /media /cache /export /files to 777.

    Then I tried to install using http://localhost:8089/index.php (8089 is where I’ve got this particular site). I’m getting an error on the db page. Says my connection to host failed. I’ve tried both the IP and localhost. Still no love.

    Anyone have any idea of what I’m doing wrong? Help is much appreciated.

    A caveat, I am a designer, not an Apache, MySQL, or PHP guy. So, feel free to dumb down your answers.

      On my Mac MAMP Install the MYSQL Server listens on port 8889 so perhaps in MODx configuration you need to set localhost:8889

      Are you able to connect to the database via the likes of phpmyadmin and if so what are your connection settings in the phpmyadmin config.inc.php

        I don’t use phpmyadmin, I use sequel pro instead, but my settings there are localhost, root, and mysupersecretpassword. I connect fine via sequel pro, not so well under modx. I have tried various ports, and tried yours as well, still no love.

          got it. Something was messed up with my installation of php. This was over my head, had to consult someone brighter. We backed out of recent changes to my php install, and it worked like a champ. Thanks for the help though. Apparently, the install of php for 10.6 is different than 10.5. I’m not sure what the differences are, but my developer had all sorts of colorful things to say about it (all of which were above my head).
