Sorry if this question has been asked, but I really can’t find any thing related from the forum search.

I have a container (Club Benefits) that contains 3 sub-containers with 30 pages or so, and 3 different templates are used. Now, client wanted some changes, and I see the benefit of using just one template for all these pages. I am curious if it’s possible if I can have the documents in 3 sub-containers inherit the parent container (Club Benefits)?

Can this be done via ManagerManger? I don’t see how to do it.

    TIA!

My apologies if I misunderstood you, but doesn’t Inherit Parent Template (Plugin shipped with the core) do just that?

Taff, thanks for the pointer. No, you are not misuderstood my question. I saw a template switcher snippet but I didn’t see this plugin, and I never paid attention to the shipped plugins/snippets smiley

Your post reminded me about the inheritance of templates when a new document is created under a container (I thought that was just the Modx’s behaviour), and I did a test just to make sure. Yes it does indeed! Good to know, but it doesn’t allow a ’switch’ for existing documents right? Because I don’t see how to do it.

It will automatically set the default template according to the parent template, during the creation of new doc/folder on backend.

There is this other plugin that will provide a list that you can set the template for the children. This is handy if the parent has one template but the children need another. You can also edit the Inherit Template plugin to specify certain templates for different sections.
