Firstly due to not knowing the system i have tried searching but you need a reasonable idea what your looking for to use it for these queries and its kind of like the use a dictionary to check spelling arguments.

I have the following problems that i would like assistance with as i only started playing with modx an hour ago and am now a little stuck.

if its already covered links will be fine and dandy.

    1. Multi Column Layouts i.e
3 Column - 1 Side Menu, 2 Main Content and 3 Side Content - if i want this to be different per each page not just site wide where i could put it in the template how the hell can i do it, as there is only one Content from what i gatehr is there anyway to do this?

    I.e
    Left ---- Centre ---- Right
Menu --- Content ---- Right Hand Content

    Or another example

    Left Centre
    Menu Content
Second Lot of Content (Separately editable to main content)

    2. Menu Systems are there ways to have a top main nav and side sub navigation, where can i find snippets etc for menu navigation?

Drop Downs Dhtml, Left, Right menus etc. I understand most is done by the CSS but examples are best way to understand something.

    3. Is there anyway to put different items on different pages..... I know what i mean but think its best for a visual example.

    so here goes. www.thegasinstallers.com

You see down the right hand side ----- where they have those boxs say i wanted to do this on my site(s) but i wanted the first 2 on one page and the last 3 on another but only the 1st and 4th on another page how do i do this because i am only basically understanding so not sure how i can call these per document/page rather than per site via the template?

This wil do for now i am sure as i advance through converting templates to get to know the software that others will pop up.

Thanks for your help in advanced.

      Hello,

You can accomplish most of what you want by using TVs http://www.modxcms.com/template-variables.html they are the next step up from chunks as they can be used as another content area more or less.

You can set the default content when you create the TV and then when you edit pages you should see the TV with an editor under the main content block. You can change the code as desired per page this way.

If you had one document you wanted to use as a sidebar for most/all of your site you could also use @DOCUMENT (think of this as something along the lines of an iframe)

As for having all the different boxes on the site you could use a TV for the bar in general and then use CSS to create the boxes. Chunks are great for items such as footers where the content never changes or at least not very often and TVs are great for frequent changes.

Oh, check out the CopyYear snippet if you have a copyright year on your site it’s in the repository and well worth using.

        AMD,

Thanks for the reply, i have had a little play with TV’s and there are promising but have found 3 little issues i was wondering if you or someone else can advice on.

        1. I don’t have the option on the drop down for a htmlarea and i want them to me editable by tinymce - how do i enable this option/fix this.

        2. The TV’s don’t seem to stay correctly within the styles if a left coloum is 100px wide or 10% i would want it not to go above this no matter what and wrap rather than go straight across the screen.

        3. Menu system is there a depositary of diffrent menu types i.e horizontal/vertical, dhtml drop down or is it all controled by my external style sheet.

I am amazed how easy this is to use and will make updating anysites easy but these are teething problems as i am trying to, convert lots of free templates to get a feel etc and content is my problem at the moment.

One more little thing are there lists anywhere of Snippits, modules etc what they do etc so i can play with them also.

Thanks once again for the help

          hello

You want rich text or wysiwyg to enable tinymce as tv edited.

If you contain the tv in a div you can limit the size and overflow options.

you can also find more info on addons in the repository. (top right)
