Is there maybe another way to do what I’m trying to do?

I’m unclear on what exactly you are trying to do.

Do you want to be able to change the TV on one page through QuickEdit and have it be changed on all pages? This is not possible without major hacking of the QuickEdit code, and would break the ability of all TVs to be edited for individual pages.

Do you want to be able to change the TV on one container/parent page and have it and all of its children be changed? That is what @INHERIT is for. Make the default value @INHERIT, edit it for the parent page, and all of its children will inherit its value. Other pages under other parents will not be affected.

If you want the first option, it might be workable for you to use @INHERIT, then you would only need to edit the top-level documents’ TVs with the same content; all of the children would inherit the value.

Maybe TV’s aren’t the way to go here. I dunno. But I would like to have 2 editable regions on my pages, i.e. the main content area and the tips section (which sits in the left sidebar of the page). And I wanted to be able to edit both using QE on the front-end. This is basically what I would like to be able to do.

Maybe this just isn’t possible... But at least I know that on the back-end I can change the default value of the TV and it’ll update/inherit to all the other pages, which is a solution, but somewhat less user-friendly.

          Hope you understand now smiley

Well, I think I see what you want to do... although the comparisons don’t match, as [*content*] is unique to each page, so it’s logical that the TVs would be as well.

You could use @DOCUMENT doc-id, and then your editors could edit the indicated document. You could have a link to the document show up only for logged-in manager users who can edit this, so they can go to the page to edit its content.

Or... use Ditto to generate the Tips section; each tip would have its own document under a Tips parent folder (unpublished or not showing in the menu). I believe there is a way to have Ditto let you edit the actual content of each item it’s listing.

              Hi, Thanks again...

Well the only comparison I wanted to make between the page content and the tips was the ability to edit them using QE on the front-end.

The website I’m talking about is this on: http://www.4x4-teambuilding.com

You’ll see the tips in the left sidebar. Just want to be able to edit that in the same way as the page content, but where the page content is page specific, the tips must stay the same on all pages regardless from which page you edit that.

I’ll try using Ditto, but not sure where to start. I’ll keep asking questions is I get stuck

              Thanks everyone

Actually, you could put it all on one page, and just tell Ditto to gather that one document. But I find it’s a lot easier to manage something like that if each one gets its own document. Besides, if each one has its own document, you can do clever things like displaying a random single tip somewhere if you want to. Ditto can do that.
