I have some Wordpress themes and would like to convert them to ModXCMS as well and release here for free download.

Anyone knows how can I convert a Wordpress theme into a ModXCMS template? Any tutorials?

It depends what you want to convert : "just" the layout / styles (in which case it’s plain XHTML/CSS skills required) or do you want to replicate wordpress features too (like set up a blog in which case you’ll also need to master the Ditto and Jot snippets).

As David points out, there is no conversion per se. Conversion would require some form of alignment of output formatting and an a==a relationship to data between WP and MODx. in fact there isn’t one unless you create it first.

If you want to "base" MODx themes on Wordpress themes, then view source on the wordpress page and copy and paste it into a new template.

if you want to build whole template packages like is required in Wordpress it may take some time to make it work.

The thing is that templates in MODx is kind of like picking a dress and then putting it on every woman you see. It will work for some but not for others. Unlike in Wordpress, classes, data types and output is typically all the same (sure some people build out really fancy unique templates) but since Wordpress has a singular (well mostly) purpose of displaying blog content. MODx is a content management framework/system that lets people output their content in any number of ways, be it a catalog or a small business site or blog.

That being said for blogs Ditto and Jot are the two main addons (snippets) that make it work.

There are no tutorials per se but you certainly could look at the wiki and at a default install of MODx with the default data set.

Thanks guys for your replies. Well I’m new to ModXCMS, but I want my template to work with standard ModXCMS installation, not to be a blog. So that should be easy or not?

Anyone is willing to code my PSD into a ModXCMS template? How much would you charge? And how much for converting a Wordpress theme into ModXCMS?

You should post your request for PSD to XHTML to the Commercial Inquiries and Bounties forum. You should get a varying number of offers and prices.

The easiest way to convert it is to take your rendered output from Wordpress and strip out the content, replacing things with a few variables here and there.
