When I first installed MODx last year, it came with several handy templates to choose from... and, most importantly, LEARN from.
Now, I have only one choice, the default with no features. That means all the chunks that came with it are also missing: the FormLogin chunks, etc.

as Vinnie Barbarino might say: when where what why and how can I get the GOOD default install back? This sucks!

Make sure to check off that you wish to install the demo site ... it’s all there.

Oh, so I just need to do a reinstall. Phew! And... crap.

I sort of thought that last part should be in "random bloviating" but I couldn’t help myself. Hitting so many obstacles it’s like I’m performing a DWI experiment for 60 Minutes.

You don’t need to do a full new install, an upgrade install will give you the option to install the demo site content.

Oh cool! Thanks again! I know it starts to sound meaningless after a while, everybody, but... really... thank you for all your help! I am determined to master this and become a contributing part of this community in 2008.

For future reference... how do you upgrade without wiping out your site?

I just dropped the new modx-0.9.6 folder into my htdocs folder using MAMP thinking that would work, but "upgrade" is not an option. The button won’t click. So, I f’ed that up, natch.

I’ve mastered it now. My error before was allowing MODx to delete the install folder upon completion. When I reinstalled it I saw the checkbox and unchecked it. Fortunately for me because I installed the simple verison again! So, I was able to go back and upgrade it. I have accomplished something this week. wink

Glad it’s working for you. It’d be great if you’d jot down your learning experiences as you go to put together a new-to-MODx article for the wiki... never hurts to have too many perspectives on that subject. smiley

Oh, I plan to! Not only will I be giving back a little to the community, but I’ll be saving notes for myself... I plan to have a section on my website. always helps traffic to have free items of interest for the public.
