    Hello,
first I must say I’m new using this system but I’m really like it. powerful and a lot simpler to use then others I’ve seen.

Ok I created a template and I wanted to use the Menus which I already have on my template, then as I read the documentation for ModX a good point was brought up, so I’m looking for a solution. is there a way to have ModX implement menus like the ones used in this site (http://www1.chem.sunysb.edu:8001) ? which is the same one I’m using on my template.

I was just going to create a chunk and include it on my templates and just input the right ID etc on the menus but as the site grows and changes this can get to be a pain. any suggestions?

well I have one other question which I don’t know if this is the right place to ask but will see. I have a calendar ( perl script) which I had modified to do and look just the way I want to and was going to include it on my pages using SSI. is there a way to do this with MoDX? I just really like this calendar scripts I can have many calendars run from a single script, have users submit events but not have them published till the admin OKs it, etc etc. I though of trying easy events, but I’m getting some errors.

    thanks for the help. cool

For a dynamic dropline menu have a look at http://www.muddydogpaws.com/development/wayfinder/examples/example-3.html
It doesn’t need the JavaScript used in the example given in your link.
      Haven’t tried a calendar myself.
I’m sure someone else will come in and advise.

The advantage of using Wayfinder is that it will automagically add new documents to the menu in the right place and remove deleted or unplublished ones so it’s worth making the effort if your site changes often.

It also adds dynamic class names to the "current" item and optionally its parents as well as a lot of other optional classnames to the first item and last item in a section, which can be very convenient for positioning and styling in general.

Not sure how clear the other responses were so I thought I’d chime in. When creating menus use an unordered list - UL - and style as you normally would building a static site. When implementing in MODx simply omit all of the xHTML starting and ending with the
              <ul></ul>
This is where you put the Wayfinder snippet call. Wayfinder will create the UL and LI items. Presto. It’s really that simple and easy to use.

Thanks for that advise I will create a separate template to test, as I just did it the hard way but would love to get this to work as describe above.

                thank for your help.
