First, I’m new to ModX and CMS in general (although I’ve worked a little on Joomla!). That being said, I really think your system is well thought out for my clients (the content editor) and I (the designer/developer). I’m enjoying the simplicity and the intuitive building/editing functions.

So, I’m working on a tweak of the "modxhost" template just to get a solid grasp of how things work. On the main navigation bar there is CSS that designated the first and last positions as well as all the other "category" links. This is great in concept, and I see it works beautifully on the modxhost website. However, in the template that comes with the install, there is a space between the "category" link class and whatever follows (e.g. "category ", "category first", and "category last"). I’m sure this is a simple thing to remedy, but my inexperience won’t allow me to find the correct change I need to make.

I’ve notice the area I can make a change in the template:
    [[Wayfinder?startId=`0` &outerTpl=`mh.OuterTpl` &innerTpl=`mh.InnerTpl` &rowTpl=`mh.RowTpl` &innerRowTpl=`mh.InnerRowTpl` &firstClass=`first` &hereClass=``]]

    which I’ve changed to:
    [[Wayfinder?startId=`0` &outerTpl=`mh.OuterTpl` &innerTpl=`mh.InnerTpl` &rowTpl=`mh.RowTpl` &innerRowTpl=`mh.InnerRowTpl` &firstClass=`first` &lastClass=`last` &hereClass=``]]

to get everything to show up correctly (except for the space issue).

I would think this is in a language file somewhere or maybe something else. Could someone please point me in the right direction?

Check the chunks that are used for the view templates, then the CSS.

However, in the template that comes with the install, there is a space between the "category" link class and whatever follows (e.g. "category ", "category first", and "category last").
I don’t understand the problem, the classes need to have the space between them since they are two classes, category and fisrt. In this case the category class is defined in a template chunk:
        <li class="category [+wf.classnames+]"><a href="[+wf.link+]" title="[+wf.title+]">[+wf.linktext+]</a>[+wf.wrapper+]</li>

If you really need to remove the space then you can change it to class="category[+wf.classnames+]"

In Wayfinder the templates are defined in this part of the string:
        &outerTpl=`mh.OuterTpl` &innerTpl=`mh.InnerTpl` &rowTpl=`mh.RowTpl` &innerRowTpl=`mh.InnerRowTpl`

There are many levels of tpl in wayfinder allowing much flexibility to build almost any menu. Check out all the tpl options at:
