    When I created my own template (success!), I couldn’t help but notice that the QuickEdit links in my content sections disappeared. The Toolbar was still there up at the left, but the little buttons were gone.

    So, I read the QuickEdit instructions on the MODxCMS website and then I compared my template with a few of the default MODx templates.

    What I can’t figure out is where the code is on the original MODx templates for these QuickEdit links. The FAQ explains a few different options for implementing them, but none of these tags seem to be in the templates.

    When I view the Source Code for the template, I see this:

    <!-- Start QuickEdit headers -->
    <script type="text/javascript" src="manager/media/script/mootools/mootools.js"></script>
    <script type="text/javascript" src="assets/modules/quick_edit/javascript/QuickEdit.js"></script>
    <link type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" href="assets/modules/quick_edit/styles/toolbar.css" />

    <script type="text/javascript">
    Window.addEvent(’load’,function() {
    qe = new QuickEdit(2,1,’/modx-0.9.6/manager/’,’assets/modules/quick_edit’,$(’QE_Toolbar’));
    });
    </script>
    <!-- End QuickEdit headers -->
    </head>

    <body>
    <!-- Start QuickEdit toolbar -->
    <div id="QE_Toolbar">
    <h1>QuickEdit</h1>
    <ul>
    <li>Content
    <ul>
    <li><a href="#" onclick="qe.open(’3’);return false;" title="Edit Space delimited tags for the current document">Tags</a></li><li><a href="#" onclick="qe.open(’content’);return false;" title="Edit Document content">Document content</a></li><li><a href="#" onclick="qe.open(’description’);return false;" title="Edit You can enter an optional description of the document here.">Description</a></li><li><a href="#" onclick="qe.open(’introtext’);return false;" title="Edit Type a brief summary of the document">Summary (introtext)</a></li><li><a href="#" onclick="qe.open(’longtitle’);return false;" title="Edit Here you can enter a longer title for your document.     </ul>
    </li> <li>Go

    </ul>
    </li>
    </ul>

    </div>
    <!-- End QuickEdit toolbar -->

    But, can’t seem to find any sort of QuickEdit tag or code in the actual template itself...

    I copied and pasted the code into a text editor and did a search for the tags listed in the FAQ (tv-name, quickedit:, etc.), but there was nothing there.

    What am I missing?

      To have the content inserted in your template you use [*content*]
      If you want to insert it in a quickedittable manner you use [*#content*]

      The same goes for template variables.

      Note the # that is making the difference here.

      One thing seems a little weird to me though maybe i just missunderstood you : You pasted the sourcecode of the generated html of your website as it seems. Your template is stored in the manager and should look very different. For exampel it should not include any Quickedit code and it should include MODx tags like the one i described in the beginning of my post.

        The QuickEdit markup, Javascript, and CSS is loaded dynamically into the page via the QuickEdit plugin. Likely you just need to add a div container inside your body tags to isolate your layout and CSS selectors from the QuickEdit div.

          Thanks, I had looked at the template, but I did a Find for "tv-name" rather than [*#content*]... Having now searched the appropriate tag, I can see it nestled clearly right here:

          <!-- end right -->
          <div id="left">
          <div id="left-inner">
          <div id="content">
          <div class="post">
          <h2>[*longtitle*]</h2>
          [*#content*]
          </div>
          <!-- close .post (main column content) -->

          I don’t know why I couldn’t see that before. But, thank you very much for helping me find it! grin
