For now, it’s really only possible to customize the CSS and images of the manager via themes, as several contributors have done. There are no manager "templates"; the current MODx core and manager interface consists of a mixed bag of HTML markup and PHP logic that is virtually inseparable.

But this is one of the key goals of the much anticipated 0.9.7 rewrite and one that has already been achieved in the default manager implementation for that branch. This new manager is also completely separate from the new core framework and parsing engine, and features four major components: PHP controllers that setup data, Smarty templates that present that data, and Ajax connectors that talk to the core framework via the final element, the core processors, where reusable application logic is centralized. In this way, you’ll be able to completely duplicate and customize any of those pieces, even the core processors through the use of core extensions (i.e. by extending classes in the new MODx object-oriented core). You could even write your own manager from scratch that simply interacts with the existing connectors or even directly with the core processors.

So, I’m not saying it’s not possible to create a custom manager "template" for 0.9.6, but I guess my point is, to do this now, you would need to "hack" the core a great deal, while the next major release will provide the facilities to do so without "hacking" any core MODx code. I do not have a firm date for a public release of the 0.9.7 code at this time, but I will just say that those of us contributing have projects due very soon that are dependent on this new code being ready. And once it is released, we will definitely be interested in collaborating with the various MODx communities to hopefully spur production of custom manager "contexts" for a variety of needs.

Are there any new facts about the possibility to modify the admin template?

There are a few manager themes available in the Repository, but the limitation are basically still the same. What would you like to change nthe manager, just the look and feel or would you want to add functions?

I´m new to MODx and I have a webpage build with CMS Made Simple. I choose CMS Made Simple because the template was very intuitive for non technical persons. I will move to MODx because it´s more flexible and has a way better performance. The Site should only offer the options to edit the content and enter new dates in the calendar.
Is this possible to stripe down the interface in the way I want it?

Yes it is, and you don’t need to ’hack’ any code. You want to learn about the ManagerManager plugin. It allows you to re-arange the content management fields as well as hide unwanted fields.
