    Hello,

I installed modx and went to the resource area to create a new template and when I click the link I just get a blank screen in edit pane. I can’t edit existing templates either. I am signed in as teh admin and I have made sure that I have rights. I’m not sure what is up. Any ideas?

Hi isus, welcome to the community!

Not really sure on the problem, have you checked your site’s error log for any possible clues (also worth checking in the MODx log as well). If this is on a live server, you might want to try and reupload the files as it may be possible that some got corrupted the first time.

Failing that, posting your server details (PHP, MySQL version etc.) and what version of MODx you are using could help to diagnose the problem.

      Thanks,
      Garry

Sorry it seems I posted too soon. I reinstalled modx to find that my ftp client was dropping files. I guess that I wasn’t having full functionality because not all of the files were uploaded properly. I don’t have any issues now.

Any idea where in the file structure that the "page documents" are stored... i.e. modx/assets/?

They are stored in the database, in the site_content table.

is there some way to access all of the templates? I noticed that the "WebLogin" snippet has a template associated with it. Also where are we supposed to put our css files? Do they just go into assets/templates/file_name.css?

When creating a custom template should I create a new dir in assets/templates/New_MyTemplate/ ? If so how do I set modx to point to the new dir for this template?

The "templates" that are associated with various snippets are chunks that have the HTML layout for the form or whatever the snippet deals with. In the case of the WebLogin snippet, it’s a chunk with the HTML code for the login/reset password form. Since they are mini-templates, you can easily create your own, or modify the default one to suit yourself.

Ok so basically you can create a new web page or new navigation by using chunks. How do you assigned url to chunks so that when a user click on a menu/button, it takes them there?

No, you are confusing the templates for snippets with the main site template. I know, it’s a little confusing at first. But a site template is what determines the layout of the whole page; this is done in the Templates tab (Manage Resources). It has the doctype, head, body, etc.

The chunks that are used for templates for snippets will just contain the HTML for a form, or for how the Wayfinder snippet formats the rows of links for a menu. These are made in the "Chunks" tab, and are specified in the Wayfinder snippet call (&tpl=`ChunkName`)

By default, most snippet will use a built-in layout; in the case of Wayfinder, it makes a simple unordered list.
