Alternatively somewhere in the manager there is an option ("default template") that also allows you to change ALL the pages in one hit to the new template..
That is correct. If you are using MODx 0.9.5 it is under:
Tools->Configuration->
On the System Configuration page, choose the "Site" tab.
There are several site configuration parameters on this tab. Number 12 is "Default Template"
You will notice a drop down select form with a list of installed templates. This sets the default template for new documents. under the select form are two radio boxes. if you check one of these, you can reset ALL your documents to use this template (careful with this one, because if you have a RSS feed, that template needs to be set to "blank" in order for it to work), and Reset only [’name of current default template here’] pages which will reset all the pages with the current default template to use the new default template. If you have already changed the default template here but did not select one of these options with it, you will have to use the first radio box and go to your RSS document to manually change it back to template "blank" or your changes will probably not show up.
