Hi,
I’m starting a new project using ModX so I’m a newcomer.
I was thinking of using TVs and templates instead of fixed DB tables.
For example if you have a model Player I create a PlayerTemplate and add TVs for the fields (ex: Name, Age, etc..)
The problem is I’d like to get rid of the default page TVs and show only the custom ones, them I will fill the page TVs automatically.
Is this possible in the manager view or do I have to use a Web view for this?
Des anyone see any con in using this approach ? I think this is really great! Is like a dynamic DB instead of fixed tables. I’ve seen an approach here in the foruns using SQL to generate columns but this approach is much better (i think) is something that big portals use (ex: Vignette).
The main item I see in favor of using TVs instead of custom DB fields is you will enjoy several snippet ability to list, sort, filter or process TV information (like Ditto, for intance).
Having DB custom fields requires writing querries and possibly custom snippets etc...
